Since this is the last Thursday before Valentine's Day, here's another photo from our August, 1968, honeymoon of my then-new-bride, Marilynn in a gun pit atop Kennesaw Mountain where we had been married only a couple of days before. The guns is a 12lb. Napoleon smoothbore cannon and it or one just like it is still in position there today:

The cannon may be in the same place but, the picture itself has changed. The landscape has changed! There is also added, a split rail fenc

It's kind of interesting how the only part of the Federal government that ever seems to feel the pinch are things the public loves. Always the National parks and monuments, an infinitesimal part of the budget, get cut back.
Never the IRS.
Makes you wonder if they do it on purpose to make the rubes howl.
Remember when the government was shut down a few years back and they wouldn't let the 80 and 90 year old vets off the buses to see the WWII monument?
That's what I mean.

Yeah I agree. I'm happy to say since 2 days ago Tennessee is the first state to guarantee funding to protect Civil War sites. It's definitely a start! Hopefully other states especially Virginia follow. However, it's hard to say since the American Civil War isn't that interesting to the public anymore, especially with the **** going around right now if you know what I'm saying.

The same 3 trees in the back left perhaps?

When I posted these yesterday it was the first time I'd seen them together, and it amazed me just how closely they aligned. It was totally accidental but I was standing in virtually the exact spot where I'd stood 46 years earlier! As you can see, the trees seem to have grown and multiplied but the area itself retains its character.
