Being from that part of the country it's most likely he was in the US army but without a picture it's impossible to do more than guess.

I recently discovered a photo of my 2nd great grandfather in what appears to be a Civil War Uniform. He lived in the Brown & Adams County, Ohio area. We do not know if this is a Union or Confederate uniform. Does anyone have any ideas as to what type of uniform he is wearing or any specifics. Any information someone maybe able to provide would be appreciated. Thank you.
