Hi, I purchased these 2 swords for $100 I know one is a m1850 foot officers sword but I am not sure what the other one is. I would greatly appreciate if someone here could provide some information on one or both of these swords. I've provided a link to some pictures of the swords

Hello and welcome to the talk forum from Southeast Missouri located on the banks of the muddy Mississippi River. Someone will come along soon who can answer your question.

I am not the expert who was to be along shortly but I do have a modest collection of edged weapons. What is essential for identifying a sword is the information available from the blade which ought to have markings on it near where the blade meets the handle. If you can post images of any such writing it would greatly help. Even if a model of a sword was made before the Civil War it may have continued to be manufactured long after the war was over. In the absence of such information on the blade it may not be possible to date either one to the war.

Welcome From The Heart Of Dixie. @kevikens is spot on any markings would be very helpful in helping to ID them.

Welcome to the group and good luck on your search. We have some mighty sharp people here and I'm sure that you will get your question answered.

Welcome from central Missouri. I think the sword with the very simple guard is very interesting.

Well you crushed it, the foot officer's sword, looks to be French, but you will have to check the spine just under the guard to see if there is an inscription in French. Can't tell you about the other...……

Thanks for all the replies! Could the other sword be confederate? I don't think I've seen that type of guard on a uinion sword.
