Both sides had some favorite songs and each side had songs that were mostly for their side. I think Dixie is a good example of this. It was also popular to take an existing song and add new words. Some of these new words set to older songs were patriotic or silly. I will start with a "Union song".
Union Dixie words: anonymous
Away down South in the land of traitors,
Rattlesnakes and alligators,
Right away, come away, right away, come away.
Where cotton's king and men are chattels,
Union boys will win the battles,
Right away, come away, right away, come a away
Then we'll all go down to Dixie,
Away, away,
Each Dixie boy must understand,
That he must mind his Uncle Sam,
Away, away. And we'll go down to Dixie.
Away, away, And we'll all go down to Dixie.
I will skip the next two verses as I think we can see the view of this song. Feel free to add a song but let's keep it PG-13.
