has anyone ever been to a CW themed restaurant or one that serves period food? I am a chef and my local historical society uses me for their catering which I often do period dinners. I have however, never been to a CW themed restaurant and didn't know if there are any out there. I even had some great names for some of the dishes but wasn't sure if I was beaten to the punch

Gettysburg has General Pickett's Buffet. Not really a civil war menu but it has a lot of memorabilia from the actors who were in town when the movie "Gettysburg" was produced.

There was a thread here some time ago in which someone posted a great article about period eating habits and hotel restaurant menus. I can't remember the thread title but maybe someone will come along who can help.

I seem to remember the Farnsworth House in Gettysburg was doing something like what your asking for but its been 20 plus years since I was there.

Yes they do dress period and have special names on the menu but I'm not sure you could call the meals period. I just ate there in the beginning of December.

In the very small hamlet of Arrow Rock, Missouri, you will find the Arrow Rock Tavern (also known as the Huston Tavern). It served people long before the Civil War and it does so today. The last time I was there, the whole place was decorated to period Santa Fe Trail standards, because this was one of the jumping off places for that trail. Guest rooms upstairs were still furnished and decorated to those standards, and with original antiques. I cannot vouch for the authenticity of the menu, but I believe you would find some authentic period dishes served--fried chicken, catfish, collared greens, etc. etc.
