Only CWT for me. But this thread did remind me I had forgotten to donate to SVBF in appreciation for their hospitality in October.

There's a CWRT in my county, but it meets Wednesday nights at 7PM and the rush hour traffic to get there is very unpleasant. It's also a pretty small time organization - rarely if ever gets authors or other prestigious speakers, doesn't advertise well except maybe to current members, and doesn't even have a Facebook page. For some reason they're legally incorporated as "Nineteenth Century American History Round Table" even though they are a de facto CWRT. I've spoken there twice, but never been a member.

Perhaps you ought to join. Then you can energize it (that it is small is not a problem--I'm sure that you know the Margaret Mead quotation: Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has). And, as a member, you can work on getting the hours changed.

They've been meeting in the same area for a long time. I strongly suspect it's because of where the organization's leadership lives.

I'm not interested in joining their organization (or any other) to be their social media manager or help organize events. I have my hands full of other history projects related to my job.

The nearest history organization near me is two hours south at a beach town -- we tried going once, got caught in a massive traffic jam, and were delayed for another hour. One of the members wants me to speak there next year, though, so I might try that,

Actually, I do my Navy veteran "impression" when I go to the store. I wear my cap with my ship's name on it and if I meet another vet we tell sea stories until my wife loses patience and we have to move on .
