Yes some resemblance! I have a cdv of a New York militiaman that is almost identical to these boys..... I'm still under the impression of US state militia !? Thanks for the reply I like the look of those uniforms of the pic you posted! you can tell they did there homework!!!!

Interesting answers. I will get a better look tonight when I can see this on something other than a phone. My first question is, can anyone a ID the weapons?

First glance, they look like Remington Rolling Blocks. The New York National Guard was issued a very specific .50-70 "New York" style Rolling Block rifle.

I believe those may be British troops, perhaps from Canada. It might be possible to identify the regiment based on the uniform details, that varied from unit to unit.

In the OP's pic the shako emblems are six pointed, whereas those Canadians have seven-pointers (7th at 6 o'clock position). Also note that the majority of the Canadians have those snake-type belt buckles, where's OP's men have plate-style buckles.
Note this 71st N.Y.N.G. shako has upper and lower leather bands, which the OP's guys' do not.

1. I can't locate a photo online of a Remington Rolling Block rifle taken from below (so as to compare profiles).
2. They could also be Snider Enfields, but we should be able to see a hammer if they were.

To me they appear to be post Civil War militia. Their jackets are not of the normal British style but appear to be a militia version of the 1872-pattern enlisted dress coat (almost copies of the 1872 pattern coat but the collars are too short.). Their caps appear to be 1872-pattern dress caps or a militia version of this cap.

The pattern 1872 uniform, this one is an engineer. Note the similarity, but the image in this thread has no piping down the front of the coat and the collars are shorter. Also the men in this thread's image have stripes on their trousers. Not the color piping around the top of the cap.

7 point because there appears to be a crown in the 12 o'clock position ?
I've never seen a crown on any USA military uniform which (if I'm not mistaken) would rule out any US troops but I'm no expert … just using a little logic which may or may not be accurate.
I would bet a very small amount of liquid refreshment that those are British Empire issue of some sort & you'll have to come to Indiana if you take my bet & win. :)

The original pic has six points and no crowns.
Andy's Canadians have seven points and a crown.
Feel free to drink my drink for me.

You win! What's your poison?
I don't drink spirits often but when I do I try to make it topshelf stuff.
I can wait if you have any plans to drive around Southern Lake Michigan. It's called the Michiana Region of Indiana.
Got a great firearms museum that is loaded with pistols & long weapons of which many are ACW era including my personal favorite a beautiful LaMotte pistol ala Jeb Stuart :yellowcarded:
By the way… thanks for getting me squared away on the pictures.
