Ran across this article about Will H. Thompson. Served in the 4th Georgia- and later an Olympic athlete.

The article claims he is the only CW vet to win Olympic gold.

But I suspect he is not the only vet to compete. Others?

Any idea how old he may have been? The first modern-day Olympics was in 1896.

Though athletes were typically older in the early years of the Olympics than they are now, I'm betting there were few men who competed who had served in the Civil War. It would not surprise me at all to find Thompson was the only one.
