At an antique store today. I am away from home and my reference books. Can I trust the antique store? Not sure what a Civil War gorget should look like.

I wouldn't trust an antique store if I am honest. I saw an 8 lb shot put ball labeled as a cannonball even with the huge stamped 8 on it at one of my stores. If the store is also saying that the kepi is civil war for $275, they clearly don't know. I believe the gorget is very much a pre civil war item, though in more modern times they were still used in Germany. You have to see the back of it but it almost looks like it's part of a peace flask

I think you hit the nail on the head with the peace flask. I'd run from that piece.

My wife has one of those bowls! Even though that gorget is a fantasy piece, it´s very clever and well-done. It´s not worth a hundred and a quarter, but if I had an old powder flask with a broken nozzle, I´d make something like that with it. That belt buckle could very well be an old reenacting repop - that´s a high competitive price.

How much for the cannon and is it safe to shoot? Where is this antique shop?
The antique store is in Clare, Michigan. If I remember correctly they were asking $500. I believe the cannon had a touch hole, but not sure it is save to fire.
