Barry, Craig L.,The Cvil War Musket: A Handbook for Historical Accuracy-Lock, Stock and Barrel, Watchdog Quarterly Inc, 2006.

This is an important work by Mr Barry; a complilation of many different bits into one easy to access work. If you are at all interested in CW arms and their repros this is a must. The lists of sources are invaluable and the comments and ratings of different reproductions is priceless for anyone intersted in purchasing.

My only complaint on the work is that I wanted more... if that is the biggest complaint it certainly isn't enough to not pick it up.

$27.95... a good price IMHO.

Shane, I take it that the work concerns how to spot fakes or conversions from contemporary arms to period looking pieces?

Shane, this looks to be a very interesting book but I cannot locate it by title or author. Do you have a source? Thanks, Matt

It's more along the lines of how & what to do to increase the authenticity of a repop. Though it could certainly be used to spot the fakes floating around out there.

It only came out in March, I picked my copy up from Fall Creek (needed some paper ladies for the unit and it was just down the road) I don't believe they had added it to their inventory yet. It was only released back in March and I had already seen a copy... so I grabbed it up.

Those looking for the 1st Edition of The Civil War Musket (2006):
I found a few laying around in a box in the garage, long forgotten.
The last three known "new copies" for the original cover price are
at BRI (www.blockaderunner.com). 2nd hand copies at Amazon
and Alibris have been selling for several times the cover price "used."
Makes no sense to me but it is what it is...Amazon is between $65 to
$155 and Alibris is $228. None of that benefits battlefield preservation
either, to add insult to injury.

The Second Edition of The Civil War Musket with an expanded
Enfield section is now available at BRI in CD ROM format for $12.50.
In ninety days the Second Edition will be available in paper, cost yet
unknown but probably quite a bit more than $12.50.

As with all Watchdog publications (a non-profit 501 (c)3), any profit
beyond the costs of publishing go to battlefield preservation.

Shameless plug here for a priceless work. $12.50 for a CD Rom version is a steal, at that price buy two and give one as a Christmas or B-day gift.
