Don't think he would have fared well in real life lol.

When I watched he ran out in front of the cannon to spot.......thinking the shockwave from the blast wouldn't have been good.

That's amazing.

During the several minutes I was watching it was interesting to note that smoke realistically obscured the view at times. The main character got killed twice (once by a skirmisher and once when the Rebels came from the right flank to charge the infantry line and artillery) The cannon didn't seem to get many kills, the only one was when the rebels charged.
I wouldn't want to be on the fence line, if you're not hit by the enemy you could be hit by your own artillery.

Due to my time zone (AEDT - Australian Easter Daylight [saving] Time) I'd be wandering a virtually empty battlefield. When I'm ready to fight most would be sleeping.
