CORNWALL >> The boys from Cornwall are all right, Civil War Cpl. Joseph Payne wrote in a letter to his sister Lotti. Payne and his fellow union soldiers from Cornwall were lumped together in the same regiment. Payne ate, slept and fought beside other men from the same small town. Fifty-two boys and men from Cornwall fought in the Civil War and never returned home — Payne among them.
