Well I did not say a Union or Confederate naval uniform. This is what the Russian sailors wore when their ships were in the U.S.

When I purchased the color plate the description page was not with the plate so I can not say anything about the accuracy of the color plate. The plate is rather colorful. The sailors in your photograph do not look like the type of men I would start a bar fight with. Well, I would not start a fight with them if I was sober.

As I said before, the Russian sailors in the photo that AndyHall posted in post #2 do not look like the type of men I would start a bar fight with. So many young Civil War Union and Confederate soldiers tried so hard to look tough in photos, but I am not sure these Russians are just trying to look tough. A couple of these Russian Sailors have hard eyes and a couple have crazy eyes.

Lord, no. At least four of the seven have bosun's calls (whistles), indicating they're senior enlisted men. I'm sure they could handle themselves in Five Points with no trouble at all.
My dad had a silver bosun's pipe which I haven't seen in years. I hope I didn't misplace it. He hand wove the cord for it--he did a lot of macreme (sp?) before he died.

I thought I would "bump" this because we have a new forum member from Russia. Russia has to be one of the few world navies who wore green uniforms. Does anyone know why they wore green?
