Civil War Era Letter

I recently received some old papers from my great grandfather. In the box was a letter from his father to his father dated September 30, 1863. Camp of the 28th Det. at Liberty Mills. In the letter he talks about a "littel fight" on the 21st. He was from North Carolina and his father resided in Lambsville, NC at that time. I am trying to figure out which battle he was referring to and where Liberty Mills might be. Any info is much appreciated. Ray

This battle that he was referring to was an engagement at Jack's Shop in Madison, Virginia, with J.E.B. Stuart up against Judson Kilpatrick and John Buford. Liberty Mills is located in Orange County, VA. The 28th North Carolina was ordered to Liberty Mills to act as support to Stuart's cavalry.

Thanks for the info, I was able to find some additional info and have been in contact with the local historical folks. They are getting some folks together and doing a further study of the letter. Thanks for all the help. Ray
