Ladies & Gents-

I figured someone would have posted about this before now but I haven't seen anything. If it has already been posted...never mind.

A construction site in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania close to where the Allegheny Arsenal was during the Civil War has unearthed about 300 cannonballs of various calibers.

I visited Arsenal Park last July while in Pittsburgh just to see what is there. Not much there other than the grounds connected to the war. Artifacts discovered there as recently as 2013 are on display at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum in Pittsburgh. Maybe the black powder inside some of those cannonballs can be removed and they can go on display there. Hope they don't all get disposed of. Thanks for the post. Good stuff.

From the links which Fox had the best coverage it appears the cache was 12lbers. As far the guys statement about no other construction site finding these I have to differ. When they built the wing on the Mobile Infimary back in the 80's they broke into a CS ammo dump of over 400 CS shells. I was fortunate enough to be there when they brought in Tom Dickie to remove them and he did it for FREE. The contractor thought he was crazy, yea like a fox. They were all Confederate shells and worth a boat load even back then.

That's good stuff. Love your relic hunting stories.
