Civil War Backpack

I have this backpack in my collection that has 65 on the back, and N.C.S. 1 on the side. Can anyone help with the N.C.S. designation?

It looks alot like the type of knapsack employed by the New York National Guard regiments in the mid-1800s...

I would guess the "N.C.S. 1" probably stands for "Non-Commissioned Staff" and the 1 is the running number of the knapsacks among the Non-commissioned staff.

Forgive a naive question, but is it possible to know which 65th regiment this belonged to? I understand that there was a NY regt. and an Illinois regt. with this number.

Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania had 65th regiments as well.
