Bought this at a local auction in Pennsylvania some time ago.
There was this wood display with 2 old Civil War grape shot on it, and a long piece of wood with an iron piece
attached at the end. Broken off to shorten it. I have asked collector's before what it was. What do you think?
Thanks.

Looks as if it might be some type of lever for a farm implement.

This is what I was told about this "I believe you have the broken end of the center pole (Between horses) for an artillery limber, caisson etc.." It was made into this display with the grape shot on top in circles of wood, but I had to take them off to get a good photo of it.
It was found at a local Gettysburg auction, and I do find homemade displays of relics there at times. But personally
I know only that the grape shot pieces are good, and the broken piece looks old. I appreciate Package4 replying.

I don't believe so, the limber pole had a leather pad attached to the end to protect the horses from injury. I have one around here somewhere, I had an interest in these at one time, because my brother found an almost intact pole, in a marshy area, of course the pole pad was long gone.

I'll hunt up the pad, but it would not have gone over that iron piece and it bolted through the pole about 3-4" from the end.

Here it is, it also has the makers mark, but I can't remember what it is and can't make it out.

I am not an expert in Civil War artillery items, but I see the grape shots as right.
Just what the other piece is, that is what I am asking. Thank you for all opinions, but if
others have some real knowledge of what it is, I would like to hear it. The opinion that
I quoted is not mine, it came from a reader in another website. I want to know for sure, but this
item is not for sale. It has been mine for some years, and I expect to keep it. I have found
more good relics at auctions, and dealer's shops than I ever did in the ground!

I can tell you it is NOT CW artillery related. I have to go with some sort of farm implement handle as package4 suggest.
