Christmas Tree in Indiana

I thought this was an interesting use of a Civil War monument. It came from a list of the most iconic trees in all fifty states.

Indiana: The Sailors and Soldiers Monument Christmas Lights


In Indianapolis, the Sailors and Soldiers Monument, built in 1902, becomes an alternative Christmas tree during the holidays. Located in Monument Circle, the venerated obelisk is strung with lights to form a tree shape, an impressive sight at 284 feet.

That is creative. But can you see that happening with a confederate monument? It would have been torn down or heavily vandalized by now.

I have this argument every year with my husband....

I say it's the world's largest Christmas tree (it is billed as such).

He says it's not a Christmas tree. You have no idea how happily I walked over and announced that CivilWarTalk and Country's Living agreed with me!

Also there is the Eli Lilly Civil War Museum in the base. Small but interesting.
