Yes, you read correctly....spring of 2022. My wife and I took our second trip to Chickamauga in late March. At the time I did not believe I had any ancestors who fought there. I have since discovered several distant cousins were on the field, all serving in the 7th Mississippi Infantry, including one who was killed in action.
We enjoyed Chickamauga so much, we decided a second, more in depth visit was in order. Our focus was walking some of the ground we had not been able to cover on our first visit.
Chickamauga Creek was quite swollen this year; the picture is taken from the west side of Alexanders' Bridge, near the positions of Wilder's Brigade
These next pictures were taken at Winfrey field, showing artillery positions which supported Cleburne's night attack.
Brock Field monuments
Next up is the area in/around the Viniard Farm/Lafayette Road intersection
Here is what appears to be a Belgian 1841 representing the 8th Indiana Battery
More to come!
