The CS Army regulations call for branch of service color chevrons.
the facing color for the infantry was to be light blue...
But considering the Confederate Army did not supply the regulation uniform, but instead cheap gray jackets, usually without any facings or trim, and the non-commissioned officers had to sew on their own insignias, or the soldier procured clothing from home, or from a tailor, etc., they seem to have done so in many cases without much concern for the color, etc., any more than the jacket's themselves were made of a single type or shade of cloth.

In many cases, evidently especially in the western theatre, many N.C.O.s did not bother about the chevrons at all.
