OK. Having weighed considerations for going to Gettysburg or Vicksburg or Houston, she who must be obeyed has settled on Charleston.

As we'll be there for three or four days, I'm looking for recommendations about where to get a room.

Close, but not necessarily in, to Charleston. Clean with a shower is adequate. A nice breakfast would be a factor. Cheap is the major factor. If cheap doesn't include breakfast, there are certainly places close by to get eggs, hash browns, and bacon,

Oh. And we won't need the best grits in South Carolina. We don't swing that way.

La Quinta on Ashley Point Drive, just across the river from lower/old Charleston. I stayed there when it was a Hampton Inn (or was it a Fairfield?) some years back; it's very reasonably priced for the location and is next to a restaurant that I really loved (called, oddly, "California Dreaming").

I'll vouch for the La Quinta, I'll also suggest any one of the variety of Holiday Inn Expresses in the outskirts.

Just make certain you drag she who will be obeyed to Angel Oak... it's a sight neither of you will ever forget.

Send me a PM Ole on when you plan to attend, I may have a source that will lessen hotel costs but it will depend on time frame.
