OK. Having weighed considerations for going to Gettysburg or Vicksburg or Houston, she who must be obeyed has settled on Charleston.

As we'll be there for three or four days, I'm looking for recommendations about where to get a room.

Close, but not necessarily in, to Charleston. Clean with a shower is adequate. A nice breakfast would be a factor. Cheap is the major factor. If cheap doesn't include breakfast, there are certainly places close by to get eggs, hash browns, and bacon,

Oh. And we won't need the best grits in South Carolina. We don't swing that way.

Ole,

Be sure you and "the one that must be obeyed" take the carriage tour of Charleston, you both will love it. 3 or 4 days is a correct amount of time to do a good tour of Charleston. We visited there about 6 years ago but for the life of me I can't remember where we stayed. If you can find a Best Western I suggest to lodge there. Hope you enjoy your stay and visit tot the fine Southern city of Charleston ( Charles Town ), SC.

What are your trip dates? Charleston is about 4 hours from me, more or less.

I have always stayed at a B&B in Charleston. There are a lot of B&Bs so you might try a quick search to see if any fit your criteria. I have like all the ones I have stayed at and echo the above comment on the carriage rides, they are super.
I know you'll have a great time no matter.

I know that you have a budget and want to find lodgings as cheaply as you can, but Charleston is one of those cities where splurging on a Bed and Breakfast near Broad Street is well worth the expense. The older part of the city is absolutely beautiful, staying in the area will reduce your commuting and leave you more time for exploring the city. I really suggest you do a search along those lines and hopefully you'll find something you can fit into your budget.
