Kinloch Falconer is kneeling (2nd from left) in this early photograph taken of Company B of the 9th Mississippi Volunteers.

That's right, Robert. A researcher who lives in Holly Springs put me onto a copy of it with the names of the men all photoshopped on the image. Kinloch's brother Howard is in the picture, along with their dad, Thomas, who was really too old and eventually was discharged. Kinloch and Howard died in the 1878 Yellow Fever Outbreak. Neither was married. Howard tried to raise a company of partisans to serve behind the lines in Northern Mississippi, but was denied permission. He then ran for state legislature in 1864, was elected, and thus able to leave the army. The whole family was in the newspaper business both before and after the war. Because an ancestor of mine, a Pointer, married a relative of theirs and lived in their house, I have photos of all of them but Thomas and his wife. The ancestor moved to Dallas in 1874, thus missing the yellow fever, taking her photos with her.

Thats cool stuff.I have seen this Photo a bazillion times in the last 50 years and always thought these men were unidentified.The picture was taken in Pensacola,am I right?

That's right. The 9th Miss got its orders to head out for Pensacola even before the shooting started. Their enlistments generally date to March 27, 1861, at least for "Old Company B," mostly from Marshall County.

One more thing about Howard, of whom I have two CDVs. He was left behind with the wounded at Perryville, then exchanged in 1863. Both my photos of him are also post-war. One other known one shows him as an undergrad at Ole Miss. I suppose that one is in their collection.
