Cavalry Officer Saber

[Cornpone and Molasses]

Picked up this nice cavalry officer saber right before the holidays. It has an unmarked blade and was probably made in Europe and imported for private sale to union officers. This is the version that was manufactured with the blade that had no etching. The guard and pommel cap have a floral pattern ornamentation that denotes the sword being for an officer instead of an enlisted man. The original sharkskin grip is still in tact as well as the original copper wire wrapping. The sword's scabbard has the original throat and drag in tact as well as both of the rings and mounts.

Interesting sword. From the flat top on the grip I believe its a model 1896 French Cav officers sword.

I almost made a few purchases thinking they were civil war era and I was wrong. @ucvrelics is a wealth of knowledge in this arena. Nice sword regardless.

Nice saber but unfortunately as uvrelics advised, not a Civil War era saber. Trust what he says because he knows his stuff!
