I'm reading, No Braver Man by Fredrick William Rohm. It's historic fiction that chronicles a medal of honor recipient and bugler for the 16th Pennsylvania cavalry.
I'm enjoying it so far but twice now, the author has described dismounted cavalry "fixing bayonets" on their Sharp's carbines! To my knowledge cavalry troopers didn't have bayonets let alone use them in dismounted combat.
It's making me crazy, because everything else seems well researched. Could this be something I am just unaware of?
I've read quite a few books on cavalry including Cogdens and have never heard of such a thing.
Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks
