I went to the Michigan Military Heritage Museum today at Grass Lake Michigan. It has only been open about a year. They added over 75 extra WWI uniforms for the 100 year of US in WWI.

A case had a Confederate cap. I could not get a good image through the glass but wondered what you think of this Confederate cap. What about the revolver?

Hum.. they did not have a tag or placard telling of the items? I'm sure the picture through glass does not give the piece justice, but something seems off with the cap to me? It almost reminds me of those buckle in the back Kepis from the 70's!? (I'm sure it's not) lol

Need to see the inside of the cap, but on first blush, it doesn't pass muster, many museums will "salt" their collections with reproductions, of the more rare and expensive, until they can raise enough for a true acquisition.

I tentative plan is to go back to the Michigan Military Heritage this Saturday to hear a couple of presentations celebrating Veterans Day. While there I could look closer at these items. There will probably be some of the museum staff there who can help me understand this display.

It is hard to beat two free classes at a military museum for Veterans Dar with free snacks. Also some of the local restaurants near Grass Lake would give me a free meal on Saturday as well. But I can stay home and get a free meal or two at several restaurants. I usually like to go the county seat and help the older veterans at the parade, but do not have to go.
