Canteen wood CS

I picked this canteen this morning. Although I do collect CW relics, I've never owned nor researched CW canteens (expect for the past hour or so). The leather, fabric & wood look age appropriate. However, my gut is telling me this is a reproduction.
As a result, I thought I'd reach out to experts here for additional confirmation.

Wood canteens were not cloth covered, tin drum canteens were sometimes covered and the spheroid tin canteens as well.

Thank you for clarifying. Is this a post war item done up to deceive or is this not even an actual item of any significance? What is confusing me is the term "reproduction" being used.

I think it may be either a fantasy piece, or a modern canteen made to look older. There were 4 basic canteens in Confederate service:
1. Wooden Gardner canteen
2. Tin drum "militia" canteen
3. Tin spheroid copy of US canteen
4. Captured US canteen

There were others, but very limited use.

Most of the things you find marked "CS" or "CSA" are altered or reproductions or outright fakes.

Got it, thats what I thought, the term reproduction threw me because it didt look like any canteen I had ever seen before. Fantasy Piece sounds appropriate.
