Canteen strap and roller buckle

Howdy all,
Would like opinions on this roller buckle and strap.

We know that Roller buckles were used during the civil war but were steel and the strap was leather.
My question is this roller looks like Aluminum as the color looks like a silver-gray metal.
So my guess would be aluminum as the buckle looks silver gray. If Aluminum, the buckle has a super slim chance to be Civil war but Indian war. My reason is a the time of the civil war, Aluminum was more valuable then gold, so I doubt Aluminum was use for a buckle during the civil war.

In addition, the strap does not appear to be ACW vintage, or military as it seems too fragile. Most ACW cotton/linen straps were folder and sewn.

this is not my canteen - I have sent an email to the seller asking about the roller buckle but hasn't got back yet.
I am looking for a blue cover canteen and this strap and buckle comes with the canteen. I don't want an non civil war strap and roller buckle! thx Package 4 for your help!

Here is a close up of my blue cover smoothside to compare. Blow it up to see the stitching and the pattern. Not that they'd all be identical but this is what package4 means by folded and sewn. Also that canteen in question doesn't seem to have a hole punch for the stopper. There might be a chance it was added from another canteen.

The hole punch for the stopper was for NY Depot canteens and not found on Philadelphia Depot canteens as a rule.

I found the canteen, it's on eBay. You were right it's stamped Rohrman. Good catch! It's a very nice canteen roller buckle or not. @Package4 I had always assumed New York had the chain and Philadelphia depot had the twine string attached stopper. Did Philadelphia depots make both types? Chain without hole and twine string? Thanks for any info I've always wanted the twine string version myself. EDIT ADDITION: I found this which confuses me even more! It mentions the twine or linen string on Philadelphia canteens but Rorhman is a Philadelphia maker. would this mean the Philadelphia made canteen passed through the NY depot??

You are correct, but there would not be a hole in the sling guide for PA Depot. They simply tied it around the guide.

Thanks for clarifying. I was getting caught up in seeing the chain and Rohrman mark together.
