I guess I have been duped, but I bought a solid iron ball that the seller said is a 12 pound cannon ball. When I got home, I found that it weighs 16.4 pounds, and has a diameter of 4.8 inches. I can see a faint mold seam, and it has some moderate pitting. I bought this item for my grandson to use in shot putting, but it would have been nice if it was an authentic relic. It's too heavy for high school sports. Is it a leaverite (leave her right there!)?

There are 12 pounders and 18 pounders, but unfortunately no 16 pounders-sorry about that; but welcome to the forum anyway.

The weight and diameter don't match any solid shot measurements so, whatever it is, it isn't a cannon ball. A couple of good photos will allow the experts to likely identify what you have. You aren't the first to have come here with the same issue.

Welcome from Southern Oregon (northern Jefferson).

I have a "cannon ball" (or so I thought) that my great aunt said was a cannon ball. I have come to the conclusion that it is merely a big ball bearing used in a Barite mill to crush the ore with.
