Camp Kirkpatrick between Atlanta & Decatur

I live quite close to where I believe the 16 acres deemed Camp Kirkpatrick aka the Rebel Barracks aka the Conscript Camp is on several maps (Cox's included).
As I understand it, it was on or near the Kirkpatrick's Double Cabin within site of the Ga. Railroad and the Decatur Wagon Road. The 9th Ga. Artillery formed and organized here under Major A. Leyden comprised of five companies - two from Atlanta under Captains Holcombe and Wiley, one from Dekalb under Captain Sentill, one from Columbus under Captain Atkinson and one from Gwinnett from Captain Peeples. It went into service with ~600 men and 20 artillery pieces.

Does anyone have any insight or theories about a) where this camp would exist present day b) how long it was in operation or c) if it might have produced other batallions?

Tons of findings above - seems like it was a very short-lived Camp - just southeast of Decatur on the way into Atlanta off the Decatur Wagon Road. Likely around where the current East Lake Marta Station is, or just further east where the current Ridgecrest Rd and Dekalb Ave.

I, too, live near -- perhaps adjacent -- to the Conscript Camp portion of Camp Kirkpatrick. (My home is on East Lake Rd just east of Ridgecrest and the RR tracks. The current East Lake Marta Station parking lot is just over our back fence.) Am I correct to assume that the Decatur Wagon Rd is what we now call Dekalb Avenue? I stumbled on some information RE the camp while researching the history of my house (built in 1922) and in conversation with my next door neighbor, an elderly emeritus Emory history professor.

It absolutely is. I'd love to hear what you've learned sometime! The Kirkpatrick Double Cabin, from my estimation is also VERY close to where you describe your place.

Wild. Me and my boys metal detect and dig for artifacts, old bottles, etc. I'd think it's promising if you're finding old bricks. Holler sometime if you ever want some diggers/detectors back there. We're down the street on Sisson.
