I came across an interesting video today on the discovery of civil war graves near Tupelo, MS. The search was being conducted by the Brice's Crossroads Foundation. The use of a dowser in the search was fascinating.

This makes me laugh. In my water operator training for licensing, dowsing is never, ever mentioned in the book, but it is in class. There are many ways to find water, even in dry spots, using aerial photos for fracture lines, etc. However, there is no water municipality or well outfit I know of that also doesn't have a good dowser in their back pocket. THAT is certainly discussed in class! It is never on the official testing, but is certainly talked about.

A case in point, NH is blessed with abundant deep bed rock acquifers. However we have one section of the state that doesn't have a lot of water. They use aerial photos to try to find water and they used a dowser. Without consulting each other - the well company (using both parties but never allowing them to meet) both came up with the same area to drill and it was a major gusher for a school system.

The world conference for dowsing is held in Vermont each year I believe.

My father could dowse and I can too.
