Does anybody know where I can find more photos of this guy, General David Stuart? Particularly some that show his face with some clarity? The only photos I can see of him are of very poor quality, as you can see for yourself. Any help here would be truly appreciated.

Not much out there about Stuart. He was appointed brigadier general of volunteers Nov. 29, 1862, but the Senate negated the appointment March 11, 1863, shortly after which Stuart resigned his commission and returned to his law practice.

The veterans of the 55th Illinois Volunteers, of which regiment Stuart was colonel, recalled after the war...

It's very hard to find substantial information on him though it's interesting to me that Sherman seems to have thought highly of him.

Finding a photo of him, other than the one I shared, has proven fruitless thus far. I'm hoping to find a reasonably good quality photo of his face that I can use for a project I'm working on.

Thanks for your help, by the way. Much appreciated.

The only other photo of him I found so far, from the old generalsandbrevets.
Yep, that's about as good as I could find, too. I'm wondering whether if any of these 3D enhancers might give his face some definition. It's a challenging photo. In fact, thus far, among the many photos I've worked on this is the only one that I've not been able to make look at moderately decent. I'll persist though 🤔

He was only a brigadier for a little over 5 months before Sherman asked him to step down. In spite of the Senate not confirming his commission he was a fairly good field officer. He not only stepped down, he resigned from the army.

Any idea why Sherman asked him to step down? Was that at Sherman's behest or a decision essentially made for him?
