Each year, just before Memorial Day, the long slope leading up to the Soldiers, and Sailors' Monument on Boston Common becomes a veritable Field of Flags.

Starting on Wednesday afternoon, over 200 volunteers 'planted' some 37,000 miniature flags on America's oldest public park: one for each Massachusetts man and woman killed during America's wars, starting with the Revolution.

A special section contained 134 flags, for those lost since 9/11.
All flags were removed by 6 o'clock Monday afternoon, and safely packed away until next year.
