I found a hard back book titled "The Civil War Dictionary" by Mark Boatner. It was published in 1959. It lists people, names of places ect.. I was just wondering if it is worth buying.

Yes Karen I have it. Mine is a revised edition published in 1988. This paperback version printed in 1991 I think.

It says US$24.00 on the back. My son gave it to me last Christmas. It is my "go to" for a quick find or summary of something. More so since I joined CWT when I wonder what folks are talking about when it is something obscure or whatever.

I have a later reprint of it, and find it useful. It's dead cheap used on Amazon.

its a great reference book, i own a copy.......at .50, its well worth it.

Karen, no offence meant, but are you really asking a group of Civil War buffs about spending 50 cents on a book about the Civil War???
If it was 500 Dollars, I could understand it, but 50 cents... Karen, I'd just say: do it!

Well... if it can give you something more than wikipedia on your phone or computer, buy it. Otherwise you don't need it. 50 cents or not. But really it is your decision.

Yes, you read correctly. This thrift store sells all it's books, dvds and cds for .50 cents.

I have been using it for years. There are a few errors in it.

Mark Boatner taught history at West Point and said he was often stumped when he taught about something that happened during the war and a student asked what became of a particular officer after that battle.
