Hello, I'm a new recruit!

I'm seeking advice regarding my small collection of civil war books. I've appreciated these books many years and hope they find an appreciative home. I have early editions of U.S. Grant, Lee, and The Great Rebellion I'm attempting to sell on ebay for a $750. Is this too high a cost? I want to make sure I'm not asking for more than they're worth; i'm also not trying to gouge people- it's just appx what i purchased them all for. Here's the site: https://www.ebay.com/itm/374270923923

Let me know if this isn't the right forum to post this sort f thing. I'm new!!!

@kilobyte , did you check the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America's site to see if their members had similar editions for sale and what they were charging? I'd probably start there. In addition, check their link "About Antiquarian Books" at the top of their webpage.

For general information, this site might be helpful.

Welcome to CivilWarTalk!

Several years ago, I hauled a bunch of books on CW prisons to the Antiques Roadshow when it was in Harrisburg, PA. (I wanted ai insurance value on them). Much to my surprise, the antiques book appraiser grabbed my books one at a time and looked them up on one of the online used book websites (I think it was either Alibris or Abebooks). He pointed out ones that were listed by a dealer he was familiar with because he felt that man would be asking the going rate for those books based on their condition and scarcity and he gave me a figure based on that. (He was tickled, btw, to hear that I actually read and used the books while researching my own book - apparently a lot of people collect books but then never actually READ them). My shoebox full of books (first editions, autographed copies and a few obscure titles) turned out to be worth about $500.

Ever since then, if I need a valuation of a book, I look it up on one of those two websites myself.

I suspect that you might do better selling them individually rather than as a group. Someone who's into Lee, for example, might not be into Grant, and they might not want to buy an entire collection if there are too many of the titles on their shelves already.
