Bombshell Model

Watch out! Last night he said" Daddy, I want to make a model for all the Confederate boats on the Roanoke river around Fort Branch." He as got the Halifax and Bombshell. Just added to the list: Elliott floating battery, Cotton Plant, Alice, the Albemarle, and the probable boats Weldon steam battery and the "Improved" Albemarle. Though the last two have never been found both are reported in official records as being afloat on the river. It really does not cost me much. The only things I have bought was some .50 to 1.00 paints, brushes, and the dowel rods. They are built on 1/72 scale so pieces are large enough for his painting ability. We have some of the 1/72 scale men to go with them. At that scale the Albemarle will be 26.3" long.
After all that is done I Know what is comming. "Daddy what ships did the Albemarle fight or what ships captured the Alice. " LOTS OF FUN WITH MY BOY.

If you ever get to Columbus - in addition to the fine Naval Museum, there is the excellent National Infantry Museum covering soldiers from all wars.

It's an excellent Navy Museum and a from what I heard a fine Infantry Museum . Being a Navy vet after I had visited the Navy Museum I did not see the point to visit an Infantry Museum :sneaky:.

Seriously though, thanks for sharing, I saw the military base there, but did not realize they had a museum. We planned a stop at the Maritime museum, without looking to see what else was in the area. Hopefully I will get the chance to get back there.
