"Returning from a 'Foraging Expedition,' (Feb 1863), from Camp Reynolds near Gauley Bridge, up Gauley River
to 'Twenty Mile Creek' and up that creek and over Sycamore Mt. to Sycamore Creek. Traveling about 50 miles in
two days and bringing back about 50 chickens 2 turkeys, 1 goose, 20 or 25 dozen eggs and from 20 to 30 pounds
of butter. Riding a white mare and carrying Col. Hayes' colt revolver."
