My husband and I spent yesterday biking the Saratoga Battlefield and found it a great way to see the site. It helped that Saratoga has a dedicated bike lane in most of the park and great info for bicyclists posted along the roadways. We'd love to repeat this at other battlefields but don't know which are bike friendly. Anybody have favorites they recommend?

I don't have any battlefields to recommend. However, if you had any interest in starting a blog, I think that "Biking the Battlefields" would be a fantastic name for it.

I know of a bunch of places where you can bike on dedicated bike trails (rails-trails trails along the Great Allegheny Passage) past former industrial sites from the Industrial Revolution.

Though there are not dedicated bike lanes, Antietam usually has such little vehicular traffic that I would think it would be safe to bike the park roads. I am pretty certain people use that area for bike and jogging routes anyway.

We are big rail trail fans. I'll have to look at the Allegheny ones - thanks!

Certainly parts of Chickamauga and even Gettysburg in the early morning . NOT Manassas. Saratoga is a great place . I've been there twice .

My last trip to Gettysburg was with my son's Boy Scout Troop. Another Troop was there doing the battlefield on bicycles and let me tell you, my foot sore boys doing the 10 mile hike were pretty jealous.
