Hello,
I am currently working on my next project and a potential publisher wants more pictures of the soldiers of the regiment (7th wv). I was curious about the best places to look for such specific pictures?

In increasing degree of difficulty:

  • LoC
  • University and/or State Library Archives; since this Regiment has companies from both in Wheeling and Morgantown, you might be in luck here.
  • Private collections
  • Family
Good luck!

The best repository for obtaining civil war photographs by far is the Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, Pa.

I searched online today and found their website difficult to use. I feel I was missing where the photos might have been. Do you have a link?
Their website is very easy to use. However, one must be able to follow directions. The direct dial number for the library and archives department is as follows: (717)245-3949. Ask for Richard Baker.
