Best book on McCulloch?

What is the best biography of Ben McCulloch? Or best book about him in the Civil War?

I have "The Life and Services of Ben McCulloch" but it is very old. I have never read "Ben McCulloch and the Frontier Military Tradition" because someone said it is very similar to the first book.

Any suggestions?

The two you mentioned, for commonly available printed resources… read both, they form a decent composite.

After them - you would best be served chasing after old issues of Southwestern Historical Quarterly for specific articles.
