Berdan's Sharpshooter

This is a kit by The Fusilier , a company that mainly produced WW1 figures . They also did a few Civil War and some nice Indian Wars dismounted cavalry . It is white metal and about 1/24th scale (75mm) . I painted this a long time ago . I think it was the very early 1990's and I was using oils and some enamels back then . Not a great job , but good for nostalgia .

Nicely Done. How in the H$!! do you paint something that small. I have a hard time keeping crayons in the lines of a coloring book.

You use a device called an Optivisor . It magnifies things and makes you look like a dork at the same time .

Do you remember a company called "Series 77?" They did a Burdan figure too which I painted in the mid 80's. I remember agonizing over the uniform, trying to get the right colors.
Yours is so very well done. I like how you painted the tree trunk. It's the little things like the ground work that takes a figure to the next level.

I have some Series 77 figures but they don't hold up very well to today's standards . This one of the 5th NY is one of their better ones , but the musket is clunky and Series 77 as a whole suffered from having legs that were too short . This is one of my older pieces and I'm thinking I painted this about 40 years ago with oils . Yikes , I'm getting old!

Very nicely done. I've never painted in Oils purely because I heard that it was an art in it self just to achieve a dull finish, especially on the blues and reds. You certainly don't seem to of had that problem .

I used the old trick of letting them sit on an index card to soak up the excess oils . I also lucked out because I had a tube of Indigo that dried absolutely matt . I didn't really have much trouble with red but I used enamels as an undercoat .
