I guess I don't know what a "Berdan DST" is.

Does the OP mean a Sharps New Model 1859 double set trigger used by Berdan's Sharpshooters?
 
Hi , new member. Still looking for an original hammer and any possible info as to who owned this rifle. Berdan DST #57283
Is your rifle a M1859 and have the JT inspector's cartouche on the flat? There also needs to be a punch mark on the inside cover of the patch box. If a M1859 you are certainly in the range of the 42nd PA "Bucktails" as 57275 was issued to Co D.
