General Joseph Wheeler. I usually don't do large photos as they take forever to finish. I did this one and decided to post only his head.

A bit of a coincidence to see this wheeler post. I'm just done watching that rough riders TV movie with Gary busey as wheeler. Obviously Gary is a completely different physical type than the small wheeler, but from what I've read of wheeler, he got the spirit of the man down.
Great effort with the photo by the way

Thank you. Rough Riders is another one I've never gotten around to see. Always wanted to; just haven't.

Joseph Wheeler is related to the Connecticut Wheelers, I know his daddy's name is also Joseph. His parents moved him back to CT, from Georgia,( Joseph Wheeler was born in GA), when he was 3 yrs old. Both parents died when he was 12 yrs old. He was raised by relatives. I also am related to the Connecticut Wheelers. I am trying to figure out who the relatives were that raised him after his parents died. Does anyone have any extensive knowledge of MajGen. Joseph "Fightin Joe" Wheeler?

I believe his mother, Julia Knox Hull passed in 1842 and his father may have moved to Georgia leaving him to attend an academy in Connecticut. He's in the 1850 Census in Derby, New Haven, CT along with one of his sisters and a brother and at least three other members of the Hull family. Mary Hull [unknown relation to his mother], 59 years of age, is the head of this household in 1850, so its possible these are the relatives on the maternal side of the tree.

Anyway, that's a great photo retouch at the head of this thread! Thank you for sharing. I'm not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but here is US Gen. Wheeler in motion in 1898, via the Library of Congress collection:

Thanks and thanks for the video clip. First time view for me. And welcome to CWT!
