Hello,

I need help identifying a bayonet I am considering purchasing. I am wondering if it is a match for my LG&Y M1861. The bayonet is US marked. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

You will need to post more photos, close-up from every angle, including from the rear, markings on the blade and exact interior diameter of the socket at the bore (front) end.

Just one photo from that distance is too generic.

M1858 Springfield bayonet with scabbard. The actual bayonet comes from a Springfield musket. The Lee Enfield scabbards and bayonets are very similar to it.

You want a bayonet match for your musket, bring it to a show. That's your best bet. I went thru 3 or more bayonets I got from dealers online years ago to match up to my Rev War Americanized Brown Bess. Gave up, took it to a show, and third to last table at the event had a period one that fit. Traded him all the others that did not fit. I lost $ but was happy in the end.

I think the gun you have in your image is from World War 2... Not the Civil War.
Your claim was the bayonet was the same as the bayonet for the Lee-Enfield a 20th century gun. That claim is wrong.

The gun you are now on about is the Patteren 1853 rifle musket. Often called the Enfield.
Now it have a number of names, but none of them include "Lee".

Update, I went to the auction and took a chance an bought the bayonet. It is a perfect fit for my rifle. Overall, I think it's in pretty good shape and a very excited to have it. I am wondering what would be the best way to preserve the leather on the scabbard. It is very dry but still very flexible. Looks like it was folded up for a long time.

Thanks!
