Battlefield Orchards

I am just starting research for an article about orchards on Civil War battlefields and recent efforts to restore them. I would love to hear from people with stories about orchards on specific battlefields, mentions of orchards or fruit trees in Civil War memoirs, and any recent efforts to replant orchards on battlefields. I just returned from an eleven day tour of eastern theater battlefields with my students, and began gathering information along the way. I have posted a few blog posts on the subject on my blog, American Orchard. Here's the most recent one.

Thanks for any stories and sources you can share.

Welcome from Alabama, the two orchards that come to my mind first are the peach orchards at Shiloh and Gettysburg.
