Title: Battlefield Bride

Plot Summary: A young woman goes to Tennessee where she becomes a nurse in the Union Army. She must overcome abusive coworkers, and her own personal grief.
Plot: The plot of this novella has a strong potential for a full length novel. However, it's short length runs into the problem of having to speed through character development, since it covers roughly a 6 month period. However, it does stand pretty well on it's own merits as a story. Due to the pace of the plot, although it's billed as a romance, there is really nothing in it that hints towards the conclusion of the book besides "A man and woman share the plot".
Writing: While it's an easy read, the author seems to have trouble seems to have trouble with keeping the internal chronology of her book consistent and things that should affect the characters of her story don't. Such as one of the two main characters lost his leg and yet it's not even a factor with the character. He has no issues walking, or even kneeling, which makes me suspect that she didn't think it through.
The Historical Part of the Fiction: The weakest part of the book in my opinion. She has her main character's husband joining the army for a year before he dies but the chronology actually doesn't work since he dies in October 1861 and yet his year long service started as a response to his wife's not liking he never joined. Sherman is called an army commander when he's not at the time. She has character singing songs that haven't even been written yet. The Battle of Shiloh is in one instance called a one day battle (April 7th and the victory is contributed to Sherman) and is yet still considered an active battlefield after the Confederates are supposed to have retreated. There is a real sense that Miss Yancy typed in "Whose a famous Civil War general in the West?" and "What songs were popular?" and added them in without doing any further research outside of finding names.
Overall: Not worth the time to read.
