The "Harris Light Cavalry" was properly part of Judson Kilpatrick's 2nd New York Cavalry.
 
Was the engineer ever induced to give his story, does anyone know? Something of the flavor of this makes him sound not just anti-Union but as if he had a personal grudge, against someone specific? Well, it's Kilpatrick. You never know.

Must have been a huge concern- who was in charge of what transportation. This reminds me of another story, a nurse on a ship noticing it was allowed to trail behind a convoy, sounded an alarm. Transpired a plot was afoot, for its capture.
