Doing some research and using old newspapers, and unfamiliar with General Beauregard. Years after the war, someone claimed that a soldier, who had been discharged for being "a lunatic," escaped and turned up again in the tent of Beauregard and fired a shot at him. Another person whacked the loony on the head with a sword and saved Beauregard. Does anyone know of anything like this? Unfortunately no date or place given. It was just some old recollection in a paper. The person who told it WAS well known for lying...
