Occupation: Member N. C. Senate, member US House of Representatives, President Wilmington & Weldon Railroad, Delegate to the Democratic National Convention, Delegate to the North Carolina Constitutional Convention.
War Service: July 1861 appointed Major and Quartermaster and assigned to correct problems with shipments of troops and military stores on all railroads in the Confederacy. Appointed numerous Transportation Agents and held a Convention of Railroads in Chattanooga. Resigned in June. Died in an accident on his own Road in September.
