Artillery uniform help

Hey all,

My ancestor was a 1st lt. with a heavy artillery unit. i was trying to figure out what uniform he would have worn etc. I decided i want a frock coat. As an officer in the artillery would he have the red piping even on his frock ? I cant seem to acctuly find one for sale either.

I was at the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Fort Sumter as a member of Battery H 1st US Artillery (Heavy artillery at the time) and our officers did not have the red piping on their jackets. They did wear frock coats though. All of the enlisted men and NCOs had the red piping on their frock coats. But I am not sure whether the officers in the war had the red piping or not.
